A fault is a fracture or zone of weakness in the Earth’s crust along which movement occurs. It is often associated with earthquakes and tectonic activity. Faults can be classified into different types, such as normal faults, reverse faults, and strike-slip faults, based on the movement of the rock on either side of the fault plane.
