In today’s rapidly evolving world, equipping our youth with a wide range of skills beyond the traditional academic curriculum is more important than ever. The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has recognized this need. It introduces the innovative Multi-Certification Skills Programme, a learner-focused initiative designed to provide students with critical and practical skills that complement their National Senior Certificate.
This groundbreaking programme aims to ensure that every learner in the province acquires at least one accredited skill per academic year, from Grade R to Grade 12. By the time they exit the schooling system, students will have accumulated an impressive portfolio of thirteen skills certifications, paving the way for a brighter and more versatile future.
The Multi-Certification Skills Programme covers an extensive range of essential skills, targeting learners in primary and secondary schools (from Grades R – 12). The thirteen accredited skills included in the programme are:
- Coding Robotics
- Sign Language
- Peer Mediation
- Microsoft Digital
- Artificial Intelligence
- K53 (Driver’s License Preparation)
- First Aid
- Drone Technology
- Values & Diversity
- Music Enhancement
With this comprehensive skillset, graduates of the GDE Multi-Certification Skills Programme will be well-equipped to navigate the challenges and opportunities of the modern world. By providing students with a solid foundation in practical and critical skills, the programme is poised to create a generation of well-rounded, confident, and capable individuals ready to make a meaningful impact on society.
