This week your Grade 4s are diving into one of the most relatable topics in the CAPS Natural Sciences and Technology curriculum: the water cycle and how materials change state. This Week’s Lesson Plan

This is a 3-lesson week, giving you focused time to build the key concepts step by step without rushing.

Day 1: Introduce the water cycle. Learners explore and label the stages of evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and collection, using diagrams and discussion to connect the cycle to familiar weather experiences.

Day 2: Investigate freezing and melting using water and ice as the main examples. Learners observe and record what happens when ice melts and when liquid water freezes, practising the use of scientific vocabulary in context.

Day 3: Extend the concept of melting and freezing to other everyday substances including butter, wax, ice cream, and chocolate. Learners compare how different materials change state and consolidate their understanding of this week’s key ideas.
