If you are an educator looking for posts in Gauteng public schools, use the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) Unemployed Educators portal. That is the official recruitment database and vacancy site — not a national DBE “one form for the whole country” system, and not something you register for by posting a letter to Pretoria.

Who runs it and what it is for

The portal brand is Gauteng Department of Education | Unemployed Educators. GDE runs it. Educators create a profile, keep it updated, and apply to vacancies posted on the same site. Circular 03 of 2024 (2025 educator post establishment) also refers to appointment from this unemployed educator database — but for day-to-day register, login and apply steps, use the dedicated portal URLs above, not a general education.gauteng.gov.za landing page.

There is no separate “GUED” brand on the official portal. Prefer GDE Unemployed Educators or the portal name as shown on the site.

How to register

From the official FAQ (checked September 2026):

  1. Open the portal and use the REGISTER tab (or go straight to RegisterUser.aspx).
  2. Complete the registration form with accurate personal and contact details.
  3. You should receive a confirmation SMS when registration succeeds.
  4. After that, build or update your profile so schools and GDE processes can see your qualifications and availability.

If something fails (OTP issues, locked profile fields), the FAQ points you to email Unemployededucators@gauteng.gov.za — not a national DBE call centre.

How to log in and recover a password

  1. Go to Logins.aspx.
  2. Sign in with your ID Number and password.
  3. For password recovery, the FAQ states that your username is your ID Number.

Keep the cellphone number on your profile current so SMS and OTP messages reach you.

Finding and applying to vacancies

Live vacancies are listed on the same portal:

When we checked the vacancy page (9 September 2026), multiple posts were live with closing dates in September 2026 and later. Caps123 does not republish those lists — open the official vacancy page for current posts and closing dates.

Typical flow: register → complete profile → open Vacancies → apply to posts that match your phase, subjects and location. Do not assume schools will “find you” without an application where the portal asks you to apply online.

Post types (from the FAQ)

The FAQ defines several post types, including:

Read the FAQ definitions before you apply so you know what kind of appointment you are chasing. Transfer and other special processes may be described separately on the FAQ — follow the portal wording for those cases rather than assumptions from older blog posts.

Profile and documents checklist

Before you apply to a live vacancy:

  • Keep your ID number, cellphone and email correct on the profile.
  • Capture teaching phase, subjects and qualifications accurately.
  • Have certified copies and SACE details ready if a vacancy asks for uploads or interviews.
  • Re-check the vacancy closing date on Vacancy.aspx the day you apply.

If you cannot edit part of your profile or an OTP fails, email Unemployededucators@gauteng.gov.za as directed on the FAQ — do not create a second account with different details unless the FAQ or support tells you to.

Scam warning (official notice)

The login page carries an anti-scam notice: GDE never charges for appointment letters. If someone asks you for money for a letter, post or “fast-track”, report it. The portal notice points to talktothemec@gauteng.gov.za.

Registration windows

Treat the portal as an ongoing registration and application system unless a newer official circular says otherwise. In this research pass we did not find a separate standalone “2026 open/close registration window” notice on the portal home. Always check the live home page and FAQ for any new circulars.

What not to do

  • Do not send CVs to random national DBE postal addresses for this Gauteng portal.
  • Do not pay third parties to “register you on the database”.
  • Do not confuse this site with independent-school boards such as ISASA Vacancies — different employers, different process.
