Grade 3 Numeracy Term 2 Week 7: Number, Operations and Relationships (25–31 May 2026)

Your Week Ahead

This is a big week for your Grade 3 learners. Week 7 of Term 2 pulls together a wide range of number concepts that your class has been building towards all year. You are working across counting, place value, and all four operations in one week, which sounds like a lot, but it actually gives you a brilliant opportunity to show learners how these ideas connect. Counting forwards and backwards in 1s from any number between 0 and 500 reinforces number sense, while comparing numbers using language like “smaller than” and “greater than” builds the vocabulary learners need to talk confidently about what they know.

Place value is at the heart of this week. Learners need to understand what each digit in a number represents, and decompose two-digit numbers up to 400 into multiples of hundreds, tens, and ones. This understanding underpins everything else, so if your learners are shaky on place value, it is worth spending a bit of extra time there before moving into addition and subtraction. The addition and subtraction work this week goes up to 400, which is a step up, and problems should be set in context so that learners are making sense of the maths rather than just following procedures.

Coming into this week, learners should already have a solid feel for numbers up to 400 from earlier in the term, and they should have some familiarity with multiplication by 2, 5, and 10 from previous grades and weeks. Number bonds to 30 are also being practised this week, so keep those snappy and routine. Division to 50 by 2, 5, and 10 is introduced alongside multiplication, helping learners see the relationship between the two operations. Keep your concrete materials close this week. Base ten blocks, number lines, and hundred charts will do a lot of the heavy lifting.

This Week’s Lesson Plan

Day 1: Counting forwards and backwards in 1s from any number between 0 and 500, comparing numbers using “smaller than” and “greater than”, and introducing what each digit represents in a three-digit number.

Day 2: Decomposing two-digit and three-digit numbers up to 400 into multiples of hundreds, tens, and ones using concrete materials and written recording.

Day 3: Addition and subtraction to 400 in context, with word problems that require learners to choose an operation and show their working.

Day 4: Practising number bonds to 30, and multiplying numbers 1 to 10 by 2, 4, 5, 10, 3, and 5 to reach products up to 100.

Day 5: Division of numbers to 50 by 2, 5, and 10, linking division back to multiplication, and consolidating the week’s concepts through mixed contextual problems.
