Term 3, Week 7
31 Aug – 6 Sep 2026
This week’s topic
Number, Operations and Relationships: Counting forwards and backwards to 700, comparing and ordering numbers, solving problems in context, addition and subtraction to 800, number bonds to 30, and multiplying by 2, 4, 5, 10, 3 and 5 to 100.
Your Week Ahead
This week brings together a lot of what your Grade 3s have been building towards all year. They will count forwards and backwards in 1s from any number up to 700, which sounds simple but takes real concentration once you cross those tricky hundreds boundaries like 599 to 600. They will also compare numbers using smaller than and greater than, order sets of numbers from smallest to greatest, and stretch their addition and subtraction skills up to 800.
The multiplication focus is where this week earns its keep. Learners move from repeated addition into proper multiplication facts for 2, 4, 5, 10, 3 and 5, working towards fluency up to 100. This is the bridge between counting in groups and actually knowing their times tables, so it is worth the extra time you give it. Number bonds to 30 also get a solid practice run, which supports both the addition work and the multiplication reasoning.
Coming into this week, learners should already be comfortable counting to 500 or so, know their bonds to 20 reasonably well, and have some experience grouping objects for early multiplication ideas. If a learner is still shaky on counting past 300, keep an eye on them this week as the jump to 700 will show up any gaps quickly.
This Week’s Lesson Plan
Day 1: Count forwards and backwards in 1s from any given number up to 700, with a strong focus on crossing hundreds (like 398 to 399 to 400).
Day 2: Compare numbers to 700 using smaller than and greater than, then order small sets of numbers from smallest to greatest.
Day 3: Solve addition and subtraction word problems in context, moving calculations up to 800, and practise number bonds to 30 through quick daily drills.
Day 4: Explore repeated addition leading into multiplication, using equal grouping and sharing problems to build the connection between adding and multiplying.
Day 5: Practise multiplication facts for 2, 4, 5, 10, 3 and 5 up to 100, consolidating the week with mixed problem solving.
