Western Cape School Admissions 2027: Dates, Status and How to Apply

If you are a Western Cape parent applying for a public-school place, use the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) learner-admissions process, not a random WhatsApp form. This page summarises the 2027 admissions cycle (applications run in 2026), states the status as of 10 September 2026, and points you to official links.

CAPS123 is not WCED. Always confirm on the live WCED pages before you travel to a district office or rely on a closing date.

Status as of 10 September 2026

According to WCED communications checked for this guide:

  • The online late application window has closed.
  • Parents who still need to apply are directed to district offices.
  • The transfer window for Grades 2–7 and 9–12 (3–17 August 2026) has also passed relative to this date.

For the next cycle, unplaced-learner help, or any extension, open the live hub: Learner admissions (WCED).

WCED has not published 2028 application dates yet, wait for the official learner-admissions page before you plan that cycle.

Where to apply or track (official)

Have certified copies of the documents WCED lists for your grade ready before you attend a district office.

Transfers: follow the live WCED instruction

WCED materials do not always describe the transfer channel the same way:

  • Admissions terms have described a hard-copy transfer form route to the school or district.
  • The learner-admissions page for the 3–17 August 2026 window stated that transfer applications must be done online.
  • Later circulars (including enhancement / waiting-list changes) may update the process.

Practical rule: for transfers and waiting lists, follow the current wording on Learner admissions and the circulars linked there (including Circular 0002/2026 and any later circular such as 0023/2026). Do not rely on an old blog summary if it disagrees with the live page.

What to do if your child is still unplaced

  1. Re-read the status message on the official learner-admissions page.
  2. Contact the district office that serves your area (details on WCED pages) if online late applications are closed.
  3. Call 0861 819 919 during call-centre hours for guidance on documents and next steps.
  4. Keep proof of any previous online submission or reference number.
