So for the 2026 cycle, applications are closed. Do not follow old articles that still say 29 February 2024 or that push you first to zabursaries-style aggregator pages.

Who it is aimed at

In plain terms, the portal frames the programme as open to qualifying youth, with preference for Gauteng, for study at accredited PSET institutions in South Africa (universities, universities of technology, TVET and related). There is a contract once you are funded — read the obligations on the portal and FAQ before you accept.

The portal also states that top three Grade 12 learners from No-Fee, SSIP and LSEN government schools in Gauteng qualify for HEI/TVET study (as worded on the portal). Always confirm current eligibility wording on the live site when a new cycle opens.

What the bursary covers (portal summary)

The portal describes a full cost of study programme with contract conditions. Official FAQ detail (use the FAQ for the fine print) covers areas such as:

  • Tuition (check what is excluded)
  • Residence support within stated caps
  • Laptop / books with proof where allowed
  • Living-allowance rules

  3. Complete the application for the correct bursary type.
  4. Upload supporting documents as PDF, each ≤ 2MB (per FAQ).
  5. Submit and keep your reference / confirmation.
  6. Outcomes are described on the FAQ as roughly 3–4 weeks — treat that as guidance and watch your email/SMS.
