Results day — how it usually works
- 1. The Minister announces the national NSC outcomes.
- 2. Candidates collect a Statement of Results (SoR) at the school or exam centre where they wrote.
- 3. The national results portal on education.gov.za opens for eligible candidates (often from early morning on the candidate-release day).
- 4. Some provinces also run their own official results systems.
Example — Class of 2025 (historical): On the DBE Release of NSC Exams Results page, the Minister’s announcement was 12 January 2026; candidates could access results from 13 January 2026 at 06:00, with SoRs at schools/centres and online access on the DBE site. Remark and related windows for that cycle were published on the same notices (and on the reverse of the SoR).
Next-cycle national announcement and release dates are only valid once DBE publishes them. For the Class writing November exams in a later year, wait for that cycle’s dates on the Release page and Exam Results page.

What you get online vs at school
- Online marks (when your candidate type is listed) show subject results for that sitting. They are not your final Umalusi certificate.
- The Statement of Results from the school/centre is the official interim document many universities and employers accept until the certificate is issued.
- SMS/USSD numbers used in past campaigns (for example 35658 or
12035658#) are campaign-year tools with network costs — confirm on that year’s DBE or provincial notice before you send personal data. They are not for retrieving old certificates.
There is no permanent guarantee of a single branded “DBE results app” for every cycle. Use the website, school/centre, and any provincial portal named on official notices for that release.
After results — common next steps
- Query / re-mark / re-check: Follow dates on the Release page and SoR reverse; apply via school/district or e-Services when open. Fees for a past cycle (for example Class of 2025 remark figures on the Release page) are cycle-specific — confirm live amounts.

- Have the exam number ready.
- Go to education.gov.za exam results — not a random WhatsApp link.
- Collect the SoR at the centre when told to.

- Screenshot online marks only as a convenience — keep the SoR for applications.
